For nearly 160 years, Valparaiso University has been a community of learning dedicated to preparing women and men of knowledge, character, integrity, and wisdom to pursue lives of purpose.

A testament to the hardworking, committed members of the Valpo community, the University consistently earns national recognition for academic excellence. U.S. News & World Report magazine has identified Valpo as one of the best universities in the Midwest for nearly 30 consecutive years.

Distinctive, innovative academic programs is one way in which Valpo gains national attention and recognition. With more than 70 undergraduate degree programs and interdisciplinary options throughout five colleges, programming continually evolves in cutting-edge academic areas that meet student needs and align with student career opportunities.

In fall 2017, Valpo expanded upon its premier engineering programs and became the only master’s-level comprehensive university in the Midwest to offer a bioengineering program. Valpo’s College of Engineering is recognized as one of the nation’s finest undergraduate engineering programs by U.S. News & World Report, ranking among the top 15 nationwide.

Students at Valpo have immediate access to state-of-the art resources and facilities, including the only solar furnace at an undergraduate institute in the United States as well as the Center for the Sciences: Chemistry and Biochemistry, a 55,800-square-foot laboratory facility. The abundance of experiential learning opportunities spans across all academic disciplines and includes undergraduate research, internships, fellowships, Study Abroad, and cultural immersion.

In fall 2017, Valparaiso University dedicated the Innovation Hub at McMillian Hall, showcasing its commitment to innovation and entrepreneurship. The Hub is an interdisciplinary center for hands-on, collaborative learning that brings together both the campus community and the greater Valparaiso and Northwest Indiana community, instilling the entrepreneurial spirit in Valpo students in preparation for the ever-changing job market.

Great teaching is a hallmark of a Valpo education as acknowledged by U.S. News and World Report, placing Valpo at the top of their list for Best Undergraduate Teaching in the Midwest. Valpo’s close-knit, student-centered community is characterized by small class sizes and a 13:1 student ratio, enabling students to cultivate strong, enduring connections with their professors.

Across campus, passionate, expert faculty inspire and elevate the lives of generations of Valpo students. They are crucial to the success of Valparaiso University as it seeks to create a transformative learning experience for its students that helps them grow personally, spiritually, and professionally.

A high-quality education, while an investment in the future, may also be a significant financial commitment. At Valpo, more than $100 million in financial assistance is awarded annually to undergraduate students. This explains why U.S. News & World Report has named Valparaiso University the No. 1 Best Value in the Midwest for three consecutive years.

The innovative academic programming, accomplished faculty, cutting-edge resources and facilities, hands-on learning experiences—not to mention extreme value—are just a few of the myriad ways Valparaiso University is so special, propelling graduates into futures of leadership and service in a world that needs them.
