French Lick Staycation Itinerary

Family-Themed Trip Ideas:

Day 1-

  • Animal encounters at Wilstem Ranch—elephants (March – November), giraffes (year-round) and Roos & Crew (year-round).  Stay in a cabin on this 1,100-acre ranch, complete with zip-lines, horse-back riding and ATV adventure tours.  

  • Hop aboard the French Lick Scenic Railway for a relaxing ride through Hoosier National Forest, or for one of their themed excursions, including “Wild West Hold-Ups” or “The Polar Express.”

  • Try a round of foot-golf at French Lick Resort, or rent a surrey cart to cruise around and take in the sites of both historic hotels. 

Day 2-  

  • Spend the day splish-splashing at the 40,000-square-foot indoor water park at Big Splash Adventure.  Then, extend the pirate-themed fun into the evening by staying at the adjoining hotel, with bunkbeds for the kids.

  •   Enjoy a round of miniature golf all year long on the indoor Cosmic course, or outdoors on the 18-hole course at Shotz!

  • Explore Patoka Lake with a Fun ‘n Play pontoon rental that includes a water slide—great for kids and the young-at-heart.

  • Take a lap around the track at French Lick West Baden Indoor Karting—fun for all ages—then, stick around to play games in the arcade.  

  • Day 3-

    • Winter doesn’t mean you have to stay indoors—hit the slopes at Paoli Peaks, Southern Indiana’s premier ski resort with 15 ski trails and 8 lanes of sliding fun at Arctic Blast Tubing.

    • French Lick Resort offers KidsFest activities throughout the year—parents can stay and play with kids, or take a break for themselves, while the kids enjoy themed activities. French Lick Springs Hotel is perfect for a family trip, offering an indoor and outdoor pool, bowling alley and Pluto’s Pizzeria.  

    • Ice cream aficionados will delight in French Lick’s, featuring gourmet ice cream, treats, artisan teas and coffees.  While there, see beautiful artwork and “cutting edge” designs at Bear Hollow Wood Carvers.  

    Adult-Themed Trip Ideas- 

    Day 1-

    • French Lick Winery offers wine tasting at one of the Indiana Uplands Wine Trail premier wineries. While there, enjoy authentic Italian cuisine at the Vintage Café inside the winery.  

    • Imbibe in artisan spirits and cocktails at Spirits of French Lick, also located in, and owned by, French Lick Winery.

Day 2-

  • Immerse yourself in history with Indiana Landmarks Tours … West Baden Springs Hotel was built in 1902 and is a National Landmark.  French Lick Springs Hotel was built in 1901 and is listed on the National Historic Register (tours offered daily).

  • Indulge in a wine and dessert soiree, or a wine tasting, at West Baden Springs Hotel.  (Offered select weekends or year-round.)

  • French Lick Scenic Railway will be launching Dinner Train service in September 2019—an upscale dining experience sure to please.

  • Try your luck at the French Lick Casino—Check out Fab 50, Ladies Night and Guy’s Night, as well as other promotions throughout the year.  

Day 3-

  • Buy local with artisan shops in downtown French Lick—Bear Hollow Wood Carvers is home to “cutting edge” art; or find the perfect treasure at Hinshaw Rock ‘n Gems, a family-owned lapidary operating over 50 years, with unique jewelry and one-of-kind gifts. 

  • Take a Sunset Wine Cruise on Patoka Lake (offered select Fridays, June – August).

  • Stop by Patoka Lake Winery for award-winning wines and wine slushies!

  • French Lick West Baden Museum – experience the area’s rich history, including famous artists, politicians, sports figures and the Hagenbeck-Wallace Circus diorama.  

  • Day 4-

  • Play where the legends paly—Pete Dye Golf Course, Donald Ross Golf Course or Valley Links Course.  Golf packages available. 

  • Discover true relaxation at The Spa at French Lick or The Spa at West Baden—both offer elegance, luxury and a multitude of options.  Bliss Spa, located downtown French Lick, also has couple’s massage or an entire day of pampering. 

  • Stay at the French Lick Resort, a floating cabin at Patoka Lake, a quaint bed & breakfast, or a cottage downtown, within walking distance to a host of attractions and restaurants.  

  • Be culturally entertained with a live dinner-show at Abbeydell Hall, at the former estate of basketball legend, Larry Bird.
