When making your travel checklist be sure to include an adventure down south and a visit to the WonderLab Museum of Science, Health, and Technology. In the heart of Bloomington, Indiana’s cultural district, WonderLab is located at 308 W. 4th St., just along the B-Line Trail.
The two-story science museum is packed full of hands-on interactive learning and exploration. Let your imagination soar as you climb in the Grapevine Climber! Create music with the Giant Xylo Pipes. Feel your heart race lying on the Bed of Nails! Let your mind float to new heights in the Bubble-Airium.
WonderLab features more than 65 hands-on exhibits featuring science, technology, reptiles, insects, chemistry and more. Visitors of all ages will learn how things work by building and dissecting the world around them.
New in the WonderLab Bubble-Airium: Big-Bubble-Blow-a-Bubble! Use this exhibit to blow bubbles and to discover why and how bubbles take different shapes as they form. Grab a metal frame and hold it over blower. See what different shapes make the biggest bubbles!
Pop-Up Play Dates – Every Saturday in November and December
As the holiday season approaches, pop in on Saturdays throughout November and December from 1 – 3 p.m. to try out a different toy, all available at the WonderLab Gift Store. Each Pop-up Playdate will feature a different and exciting toy and a give away per child (while supplies last)!
Meet the Instruments – Saturday, November 3
Get hands on with the Bloomington Symphony Orchestra here at WonderLab! The Bloomington Symphony Orchestra will be at WonderLab on Saturday, November 3rd from 10 – 12 p.m. Children, toddlers and older, can touch, hear, and explore all sorts of woodwind, brass, string and percussion instruments. This is a drop-in event and is free with museum admission. Note: This is a hands-on event where children can explore instruments. This is not a concert.
WonderLab Takes Flight – Saturday, November 10
WonderLab is celebrating the International Science Center and Science Museum Day with an afternoon devoted to aviation! On Saturday, November 10 from 1 – 4 p.m. middle school and high schoolers, as well as their families, will have the opportunity to explore and experiment with aviation. Guests will learn about the wide variety of pioneers of aviation and the science that drove them, fill out aviation notebooks, and design their own paper helicopter. This event is free with museum admission.
Hello Cello: Live Music at WonderLab – Sunday, November 11
During Hello Cello Listen to cello music, meet people who play cellos, and learn about the science behind string instruments! Cellists from the studio of Professor Emilio Colón at the Jacobs School of Music will occupy WonderLab for one day only, and fill our galleries with live music! Free with Museum Admission

Night at the Museum: Animals A to Z – Friday, November 16
Meet animals face-to-face as you climb, crawl, and scamper your way through all the exhibits, programs and activities WonderLab has to offer during this special evening event at the museum.
This all ages science event includes live animal demonstrations from Wildcare Inc., Indiana Jim’s Reptile Experience, and Silly Safaris. Search for clues during a museum wide scavenger hunt, laugh along with the antics of Jungle Joe’s Flea Circus, have your face painted by Callie & Company, or test your nerves in the Bloomington Indiana Grotto’s Caving “Squeeze Box.” Also at the event:
Enjoy it all: animal adaptations science, early childhood activities, and snacks from local restaurants. Animal costumes are encouraged! Tickets $8 for members, $10 for non-members. Tickets are available at wonderlab.org.
Girl Scouts: Sherlock Scouts – Saturday, November 17
Two sessions: Young Scouts 1:30-2:30 p.m. Advanced Scouts 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Use your science skills and the powers of deduction just like Sherlock Holmes! Learn about fingerprints, extract your own DNA, investigate a crime scene, and talk to an Evidence Technician from the Indiana State Police Department! Do you think you can solve the case? Preregistration required. $13 for Scouts, $6 for adults and siblings

Museum Closed for Thanksgiving – Thursday, November 22
Thanksgiving is a time for rest, relaxation, and ridiculously long cook-times. WonderLab will be shut down to allow for maximum turkey saturation on the holiday.
Science Live! Owls – Friday, November 23
On Friday, November 23rd come learn all about everyone’s favorite bird of prey, owls! Learn about the important role birds of prey play in our ecosystem through the event’s use of live animals and natural artifacts! Presented by Take Flight! Wildlife Education.Tickets are $3 per person and available on the day of the event.
Iron Science Chief Girl Scout Program – Saturday, December 1
Two sessions: Young Scouts 1:30-2:30 p.m. Advanced Scouts 3:30-4:30 p.m.
Dig in to the science of food! Give bananas tattoos, experiment with the science of smell, extract DNA from a strawberry, make ice cream and juice gummies and so much more! Special STEM Sunday – Sunday, December 2
On December 2nd WonderLab is partnering with Indiana University to bring a very special STEM Sunday taught by the IU STEM Class all about the ocean! Explore how arctic animals use blubber to stay warm! Make jellyfish and learn about their environment! Dive into the different layers of the ocean and discover how pollution affects the ocean and the animals that live in it! STEM Sunday activities are free with Museum Admission. STEM Sunday is sponsored by Cook Medical and CFC Properties.
Robot Take Over – Saturday, December 8
Computer Science Education Week is December 3 – 9, and WonderLab is celebrating with a Robot Take Over on Saturday, December 8 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. Experience a sampling of everything robotics has to offer from coding, designing and building robots, and seeing what robots do in the real world. The event is free with museum admission.
Reindeer Reserve – Saturday, December 15 and Sunday, December 16
Get in the winter spirit here at WonderLab with Reindeer Reserve. There will be shows at 1:30 a.m. and again at 3 p.m. both days. Meet a variety of arctic animals including real, live reindeer and on Sunday come and meet baby reindeer! Tickets cost $5 per person plus museum admission.
Gift Store Specials: Stuff a Stocking – Wednesday, December 19 through Sunday, December 23
Grab a stocking, any stocking of any size, and get to stuffing. All the Gift Store items that you can fit into your own stocking (any size) will be 25% off. Bring your own, and if it’s too big for you, no one’s batting an eye, Note: No potato sacks allowed. It must be an actual stocking or sock.
