Summer is coming, and that’s when Cass County pulls out all the stops to make sure everyone sheds their winter woolens and gets out to have some fun. Lots of possibilities are available, whether your pleasure is energetic outdoor play or chilling as you enjoy fine entertainment.
A good way to ease into the season is by spending time at Little Turtle Waterway. In the peaceful surroundings here you’ll be able to walk, run or hike as you enjoy nature, and new this year are cornhole boards. Panhandle Pathway is another good spot for getting out into the green. This 21-mile rails-to-trails conversion is optimal for biking, running and walking that will take you through the town of Royal Center.

For more vigorous activity, try out the pickleball courts at Riverside Park. France Park is the place to go for swimming and scuba diving in the clear water of a long-abandoned stone quarry. Also here are hiking or biking on five to seven miles of trails as well as camping, kayaking, a 24-hole disc golfing course and fishing on Lake Elzbeck.
Logansport Parks Department has installed new playground equipment in Fairview Park near the fields where it’s also enjoyable to catch a Cal Ripken League or Babe Ruth League baseball game. Swings, slides and climbing structure are accessible to children of all abilities.

McHale Auditorium will be the site of some upcoming not-to-miss theater. The Civic Players of Logansport present “Young Frankenstein” (the musical) on June 20, 21, 27 and 28. Then on July 18, 19 and 20 the Junior Civic Players will perform “Shrek the Musical” in the same location.
Bonus Pints will offer a free outdoor concert lineup on Friday nights, and the Cass County Arts Alliance Summer Sundown Series will be held every Sunday at 7 p.m. at parks throughout the county.

And don’t forget the Logansport Farmers Market on the corner of Fourth and Market streets every Saturday morning. Shop for local meats and fresh produce while you munch on homemade baked goods and explore arts and crafts. What could be more fun than that?
