Creative energy has guided Marlene (Marlee) Mickelson throughout her life. From a professional educator, counselor, editor, and public speaker, she now adds “art” to her repertoire. “Art” as in teacher, artist, and gallery director and curator. She’s based out of Peru, Indiana, in the Miami County Artisan Gallery she established in September 2015. She works and inspires ten artists in the gallery and about 45 others by displaying their art, and also through monthly art events.
An award-winning artist, she does oils, mixed media, rosemaling, draws, sculpts and does etchings. In May, 2016, her rock sculptures were displayed in the Honeywell Center Art Show.
The Miami County Artisan Gallery is home to not just artists, but also seminars, art classes, open houses, and more. Here you’ll even find Redmond Chocolate Company, a locally-owned chocolate business specializing in single origin chocolate “from bean to bar.”
Peru’s annual Chocolate Festival is held at the gallery each year, and festival goers can sample and buy chocolate specialties, enjoy champagne and wine tasting, and vote for their favorite chocolates.
