Meltdown Winter Ice Festival

The coolest festival around is back in town on January 25th – 27th at the Jack Elstro Plaza, near the Downtown Richmond and Depot District areas! Here are a few highlights!

ALL WEEK
Check out the Lego competition at the Uptown Innovation Center!

TUESDAY
Meet a carver at 3:30pm at Morrisson-Reeves Library. Come meet the most talented ice carvers in the world as they begin their week of ice challenges!

THURSDAY
Chili for Charity at 5:30pm at Morrisson-Reeves Library. Warm up before a COOL weekend with chili for a cause! Community organizations will pull out their best recipes for this friendly competition supporting the good work of our community’s nonprofits!

Public carving at the Leland Legacy at 3:30pm. Want to watch the carvers at work but feeling a bit chilly? Warm up INDOORS at the Leland Legacy while you watch the carvers create a beautiful sculpture right outside the window.

Enjoy a BLAZING HOT show from local fire troupe Bales Fox Fire at 7pm at the Jack Elstro Plaza. What would the Meltdown be without a little fire? Are you ready for the HEAT?

FRIDAY
Interactive Play Zone open at Jack Elstro Plaza from Friday until Sunday. Play games MADE OF ICE, take photos with the sculptures, and take in the magical creations made by world-class carvers.

Enjoy a BLAZING HOT show from local fire troupe Bales Fox Fire at 6pm at the Jack Elstro Plaza. What would the Meltdown be without a little fire? Are you ready for the HEAT?

The Ice Fights kicks off with the “Big Reveal” on Friday at 7:30pm at the Jack Elstro Plaza. Watch as ice flies and world class carvers work together to create massive melting artwork before a hyped-up crowd!

SATURDAY
Hayes Hikes and Chocolate from 10am-4pm at Hayes Arboretum. Warm up after exploring nature with free hot chocolate in the nature center! Driving tour, hiking trails and nature center are all open and ready to explore!

Music at the Meltdown will be held Saturday afternoon from 3-7pm around town!

Frozen Fairy Trail will be open from 10am-4pm on Saturday. Children will participate in wintry crafts and games at each Enchanted Fairy Trail stop. The trail starts at the Wayne County Tourism Bureau and will take you all round town!

Magical Snowflakes on Main will be open on Saturday from 10am-4pm. Large snowflakes will be placed along Main Street with positive, uplifting quotes. Participants will collect code words from each snowflake to form a secret message. Participants can turn in passports at the Welcome Center for a prize.

The Meltdown Throwdown is on Saturday Night at the Jack Elstro Plaza at 7:30pm. The battle is ON! Will Team Fire or Team Ice prevail? Watch the ice fly as world class carvers IMAGINE and DELIVER on amazing ice sculptures in a battle where YOU decide who wins!

And lots going on that whole week from pub craws, to coloring contest, Lego competitions, warming stations, live concerts and so much more!
