Fruitshine Winery is located on a beautiful farmstead, established in 1890, in Monticello, Indiana. The Alvarez family purchased the farm in 1999 and immediately planted fruit trees to add to the orchard. As time passed, the fruit they didn’t sell they started turning into wine.
“I use the same wine-making techniques passed down from my Spanish great-grandma and grandma, who used to make wine for the family,” says Dan Alvarez, who first learned how to make wine from his grandma when he was just five years old. They started sharing their wine with family and friends to re-establish the tradition. Soon it became apparent to them that there was a great demand for their fruit wine.
The Alvarez family decided to open their winery to share family tradition with everyone. They use only local, hand-picked, tree ripened fruit in the production of their hand-crafted, artisan created, small batch wines.
No concentrates, preservatives or sulfites are used, just honest seasonal fruit. There is 1.5 lbs of tree ripened fruit in every jar crafted. This is turned into wine that captures the fresh flavor in a jar (18% alcohol fruit juice). The Alvarez family believe the great taste of fresh fruit produces the best tasting wines.
Their family winery is also available for weddings, corporate events, and private parties. All 13 acres in the winery can be used to accommodate guests and create a picturesque backdrop for their special day.
Fruitshine will be offering new flavors this year, including: senshu, apple, banana, nectarine, European plum, and chojoro asian pear to add to their current 14 varieties. All wines are blended to create complexity and to adjust sweetness to fit each individuals pallet.
