The Cedar Lake Historical Association (CLHA) has announced that its partnership with the Hesston Steam Museum (HSM) of LaPorte, Indiana, has been renewed for a second season. Rides on magnificent Cedar Lake from The Museum at Lassen’s Resort began on June 2 and will continue one day each week all summer long.
“We executed our grant-funded humanities program, Steam Through History, for one week last summer with outstanding results,” explained CLHA executive director, Julie Zasada. “Over 1000 passengers learned resort history and discovered the science of steam power aboard ‘Steamer Dewey.’ It made sense to renew the program with the Hesston Steam Museum for 2022.”
The museums gathered extensive feedback from guests and have modified the program for this summer. Rides are offered once a week from June through August on Wednesdays and Thursdays alternately. There are four routes to choose from with varying cruise lengths and price points. And a mobile optimized website featuring historic resort sites on Cedar Lake has been developed with a student team from IUPUI’s School of Informatics and Computing.
“When guests board the steamboat, they will be able to open a mobile friendly website that will map about 30 historic resorts and view photographs and details about those resorts throughout their excursion,” added Zasada. “Since The Museum at Lassen’s Resort is the last remaining hotel from Cedar Lake’s resort-era, this website will help connect the past to the present-day shoreline in a dynamic way.”
Steamboat rides take place at the The Museum at Lassen’s Resort, 7408 Constitution Avenue, Cedar Lake, IN. Tickets include complimentary, same-day museum admission. For more information and to purchase tickets, visit lassensresort.org/deweyline.
