With family roots steeped in pride on a Hoosier homestead in Southern Indiana, the Doty family seemed destined for greatness. Amidst fields of grapes and grains, John Doty learned, at a young age, the fine art of wine-making from his grandfather. In the mid- 1990s, he and his wife, Kim, started French Lick Winery, bringing his dreams to fruition. Today, along with their two sons, the business has blossomed to feature more than 30 types of wine, many recognized with national and international awards.
In October 2016, they will launch Spirits of French Lick, as one of the state’s largest artisan distilleries. It focuses on Indiana-grown grains and specialty grains ideal for small batch products. Spirits include bourbon, whiskey, vodka and specialty blends. Rounding out their service is Vintage Café, featuring family recipes and Old World- style Italian cuisine. The restaurant seats up to 100 people and also hosts live music and events on special occasions.
