“Small Batch and Handcrafted.” This is the idea behind one of the newest wineries in DeKalb County, Indiana. Hartland Winery, located in Ashley, Indiana, truly does stick by those words when producing their wine, and so far, this concept has proven to be very successful!
Hartland Winery officially opened its doors to the public on May 23rd, 2016, but it took many years of planning for them to get to this exciting point in the process! Wineries, like other food & drink ventures, take a large amount of time and dedication since the main components of a winery, the grapes and the wine it turns into of course, need ample time to grow, mature and ferment.
Brenda Lockhart, the Tasting Room Manager, and Alan Lockhart, the winemaker himself, have about 70 vines at their home and Alan began making wine roughly 10 years ago in Brenda’s kitchen! Needless to say, they have lots of experience in this craft and Hartland Winery is in the process of making wine and creating new kinds all year round.
The winery itself sits upon about 5 acres of land, including 3 acres of vineyard. Within this relaxing country landscape is a patio on which you can enjoy a glass of wine while listening to live music that Hartland has hosted numerous times throughout the summer!
Brenda has amazing plans for the winery that the public to enjoy in the future! Visitors can also expect more live music from Memorial Day through Labor Day of next year! Make sure to stop out at Hartland Winery in the very near future, as they have upcoming live music performers and just released two new red wines!
