At the Mascot Hall of Fame in Whiting folks are constantly working to make sure their visitors have a good time and learn while they play. Their many activities have been developed with S.T.E.A.M. educational principles in mind, and their love of sports keeps their guests active and entertained.
Because they believe that museums like theirs should be accessible to all children, now they are partnering with the Notre Dame Federal Credit Union to make spending a day with them even more affordable. The first Friday of every month is Free Day Fri Yay. This means admission is free, so a family can come once a month without having to pay.
They are also taking part in the “Museums for All” initiative which is kindly sponsored by BP, which has the same goal. When you arrive at the museum, present your SNAP/EBP card at the desk and receive a discounted $3 general-admission ticket for up to four people in your group. This program isn’t available for online purchases, but it’s easy to take advantage of the savings when you arrive in person.
When you come to explore the MHOF you’ll find a colorful an exciting environment where kids and their adults can learn while they play. At the Fur-eshman Orientation Theater you’ll learn how the museum came to be from mascot Reggy, and from there you can learn the history of mascots and how their costumes are made. Try on a costume to see how much it weighs, do a workout with Reggy and design a mascot of your own. Watch clips of famous mascots at the Mascot Moments Theater or compete with your companions to match mascots up with their teams and hometowns – and much more.
While you’re here, practice football, basketball, soccer, volleyball and hockey skills on the Centier Bank Sports Court. Younger children will have a ball at Basic Training Center, the ultimate playground. Want to learn to use a T-shirt shooter? Yep, that’s here, too.
