Richmond, Indiana — Calling all Soul Trail fans to help set a Guinness World Record. The attempt at the Longest Soul Train Dance will take place Saturday, September 8, 2018 at 4 p.m. in Richmond, Indiana as part of the annual Historic Depot Fest. The current record is 427 people.
Rick Parker, a business owner in the historic Depot District, stated the application for the event has been approved by the Guinness World Records organization. The dance line, which involves people lining up on two sides with people dancing individually or as partners through the line’s center, was part of the iconic Soul Trail dance show which aired weekly from 1971 until 2006. The show featured performances by soul, R & B, Jazz, disco, pop and hip hop artists.
The event will take place on North E & 10th Street, in front of the stately 1902 train depot. This world record attempt is hosted by InConcert, an organization that supports 13 not-for-profits through organizing entertainment events. This event is in conjunction with the annual Depot Fest, a free festival featuring a beer garden, Model Ts, historic depot district tours, Fun/Games for Kids including trackless train rides, vendors, live entertain
ment and the Soul Train Dance at 4 p.m. Followed by a concert at 6 p.m. with the Tempted Souls/Cincinnati and Big James and The Chicago Playboys/Chicago. Concert tickets available at $15 and $20 the day of the show. www.inconcertrichmond.com
