It’s the New Year and the Indiana Repertory Theatre (IRT) is preparing for its largest production of the season, Guess Who’s Coming to Dinner, adapted by Todd Kreidler based on the screenplay by William Rose. The production, which follows two sets of parents as they realize that their children have fallen in love with someone of a different race, challenges the social response of traditional love and marriage definitions, while asking audiences to consider what truly powers the human heart. The nine cast members, whose credits include Prison Break, The Bold and The Beautiful and appearances on Broadway, come together in a culture-clashing, family-testing, witty and thoughtful drama that asks: can love really conquer all? Find out for yourself beginning Jan. 10 through Feb. 4 on the OneAmerica Mainstage.
Also in the New Year, the IRT brings its commitment to education center stage with two productions that will touch the hearts and minds of all –especially young audiences. Set amid the dangers of World War II, The Cay tells the story of a young white boy and an older black man who overcome hardships and prejudices and remind us that friendship has no boundaries. The Cay, an award-winning children’s novel, begins on Jan. 28 through Feb. 26 on the IRT Upperstage.
In its third year, the IRT’s Exploring Stages program features Stuart Little, a child-sized production that brims with invention and imagination and is perfect for audiences three years and older. Join in the adventure of our favorite tiny hero as he navigates life with his human family and his friend Margolo the bird –as long as he can avoid the sinister Feline, Snowbell, beginning Feb. 25 through Mar. 26.
